Stop ICC from attacking Chicago’s small businesses.

Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) is adding flat monthly charges to sole proprietor, nano-business, and small-business utility bills.
These charges are not based on usage, cannot be avoided, and, for many, nearly double the bill. Gas bills are already affected. Electric bills are coming next.

Utilities and regulators describe these charges as “only a few dollars.”
Real bills show that is not true.

ICC has granted themselves the ability to increase these charges at will. And they already have.

Illinois stands alone in shifting low-income utility costs onto small businesses through flat fees that can double a bill.

We’ve launched a public petition calling on the Illinois Commerce Commission and state leaders to stop the flat utility fee imposed on small businesses and sole proprietors.

This policy unfairly charges neighborhood businesses the same as large chains, can nearly double monthly bills, and threatens the survival of local businesses.
